Reasons for losing permanent resident ststus

While a temporary resident of Canada may lose their status in Canada for misrepresenttaion, or after committing an offense in Canada, it is more difficult for a permanent resident of Canada to lose their hard-earned status.

A finding of misrepresentation, failure to comply with the residency requirements, or “serious criminality” on the part of a permanent residence may result in a Removal Order being issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. The immigration officer does have discretion not to issue the Order however, and professional representation by us may help to avoid it being issued. If a Removal Order is issued against a permanent resident of Canada, they are entitled to Hearings at the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada and we can represent them in proceedings and attempt to stop their loss of permanent residence status and their removal from Canada.
